About the Book

The book is an innovative, quick, and user-friendly guide that is designed to support Lead SNERS (Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation Services) Coordinators or SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and classroom teachers to understand the barriers that students with special needs education and disabilities, and children that are at risk face. For each of the identified learning needs, it proffers simple, proven, and cost-effective strategies on how to remove those barriers so they can improve outcomes for these students.

It also looks at extending and challenging the learning of identified gifted and talented students, who are sometimes overlooked in the classroom.

About the Author

Kola Okolo has been in education for 20 years and has taught in secondary schools and colleges across London, Leatherhead, and Milton Keynes in the UK. As a senior school leader, he has held various roles, both pastoral and the curriculum, including Designated Safeguarding Lead and Pupil Premium Lead, amongst many others. He has trained and mentored teachers in England and Africa.

Kola is an inspirational teacher who is passionate about providing equity, social justice, and fairness for the whole child. However, his visits to some schools across Africa and his role as the Whole School Pupil Premium Lead in a South London school inspired him to write this book when he experienced first-hand the impact of poverty and inequality on attainment, well-being, and the child’s overall progress.

He has lots of experience in education training and support; and acts as an educational consultant.

He has a QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) from the Institute of Education, University College London, and an M.Ed (Master of Education) in Educational Leadership from the University of Buckingham.

Kola is married with two children and lives in South London.
